I have managed a bit of braiding time the past couple of days. I taught myself an 8 strand flat braid. I'll put more time into the flats but so far don't find it as rhythmic as the round, almost to the point of annoying.
4 strands each purple and natural hemp in 20lb (1mm) weight.
Each 35" long
Finished braid 20" from knot to knot.
6.7mm wide 2.7mm thick.

I would love to give a proper marudai a try. I have a feeling that might be nicer. I'm considering buying one but go back to the debate of loom vs marudai. The loom is actually a better choice for my long term interests. I'll order more braiding books though and see how this holds my interest.
I make a key chain with some leftover leather cording.
