Do they grow at your place? I love them. I never remember their real name without looking it up because I grew up only hearing hypocrites......mock poinsettias. They grow like a weed. Once you get them, they are every where. They have a minimal root system though and pull out with no effort so I've never considered them a pest.
A few years of bad weather late in the season and most haven't had a chance to set seed. Since they are annuals, there have been fewer every year to the point they are almost gone. I always yank them out of the Christmas Cactus pots when I spot them as they are usually plentiful in the yard. Not last year though. I babied this one through winter last year after discovering in the pot when I moved the tropicals indoors. Come spring it got transplanted with the big cc. It loved the good soil and became massive, a good 2.5' across and 3' tall. Usually they are scraggly one or two stem 10"-12" things.
I took this photo a month or two back. It's already October and it is getting chilly outside. Seeds still aren't ready so I'm becoming concerned for next year.
