False Starts

False Starts and proof that color dominance is alive and well. This was my third try on a striped toe. Obviously, it is no longer attached. I gave up. This sock is getting a solid color toe instead.

Try 1: I couldn't get my stripes to match up and do my round toe that I prefer. Frogged. I charted the increases for the next try.

Try 2: Round toe requires increases every row the first few rounds. I routinely do this with single color toes. Huge tussle with two colors though my stripes are correct now. Fine! Frogged.

Try 3: Modified my round toe to less rounded. This works ok. Knit away. Looks rather pointy and stiff after 10 or so rounds. Hmmm. Well maybe it will be ok. Wander off to do other things. Knit some more. Still pointy and getting stiffer. Then ....oh for goodness sakes! I switched the colors from one hand to the other, at some point, and now white is dominate. While, I am sitting there, trying to decide how much it will bug me (lots and lots!), I start considering my gauge. This toe is really, really stiff. Too funny. After a quick measuring session, I discover I am getting 9+spi with *sport weight* yarn. Well, no wonder it was so rigid! Last time with this same yarn and one needle size larger I was getting 6.5spi in colorwork. I was shooting for 6spi on this one. I always have tighter spi in increase areas but this is crazy tight.

Snip! That toe is gone. Maybe the striped toe would have worked out fine with better gauge. Maybe I'll give it a try some other time. Not today though and not for this sock!
