I've made a 'thing' with ply-split braiding. Just looks like a bookmark, photo later. I'm not loving the process. First strike (and maybe two and three!) is I have to wear my reading glasses to do the work. I hate them (I have good non-negotiable reasons).
The instruction book I bought, Ply-Split Braiding An Introduction to Designs in Single Course Twining, leaves me with more questions than answers. It is one of those deals where you quickly turn the page for 'the rest of the information' and realize, that's it! Frustrating. It doesn't mean the book is bad, just somewhat lacking. Of course it could just be me, I am rather particular about books. I don't like buying a book or taking a class and then still needing to re-invent the wheel.
Saying that, I was easily able to start and make my 'thing'. I'm stumped on finishing it as the information was sketchy. I tried a few ways of finishing but not happy with the looks so tore it all out. Some of the braids have graphs, others don't. My luck is the ones that really appeal to me don't have the graphs. I much prefer graphs or charts, I can see at a glance what comes next which prevents errors.
I don't regret buying this book at all but it is what it says.....an introduction. I would purchase it again but if I want to continue with ply-split braiding I need to plan on figuring out a lot of things on my own. I may cave an order more books though there are very limited choices on the market. I am interested in trying out some baskets with this technique.
I have enough cord to make several more braids so I'll keep playing until I run out then decide whether to continue.
As I mentioned yesterday, not much, if any playtime this week. I have books to read though. I fell asleep with my nose in a Kumihimo book last night. Pretty new cords came in yesterday too. They will be taunting me all week...come play with us!
Break time is over!
